MapWinGIS in VS2008

Nov 27, 2012 at 1:15 PM

I’m using the MapWinGIS.ocx in Visual Studio 2010 (VB.NET) without any problems, but I can’t manage to get it to work in VS2008. The control does load in the toolbox and the references are there, but when I drag the map control on a form and debug I get the error “Cannot find specified module”. I tried re-installing but it doesn’t help; in VS2010 everything works fine but not in VS2008.

How is this possible?

(PS I want to keep the project in VS2008 because of the difficulties with SQLite database in the Express edition of VS2010)

Many thanks

Did you compile the ocx yourself?

Do you have the proper VC++ 2008 redistributables installed?

Are you using both VS versions on the same machine?

Do you have .NET v3.5 installed?

Hello Paul,

Thanks for your reply. To answer your questions:

1. First I used the 32 bit installer and later I installed MapWindow and tried the ocx that comes with the Mapwindow package.

2. Which redistributables do I need?

3. Yes, both VS 2008 and VS2010 are running on the same machine (Win7, 64 bit)

4. NET 3.5 SP1 and 4.0 are installed

Hope this helps!

OK, I found the solution. In the build configuration manager I had to change "any CPU" to x86 - now it works fine.

Thanks for your time
