Data Merging

So, I have four different XY point datasets that I need to do the following:

1) For each dataset; Buffer the points, merging the resulting buffers
2) Take the four buffers, and merge them into a single output layer

So far I've been able to do the above, but I need to have the result of step 2 maintain information about which of the four buffers were present at any given point. The result should have up to 15 combinations of the four layers.

To simplify this, lets take an example where just two datasets are involved. After merging the two buffers, I would have 3 different possible areas.
1) Only the first dataset is present
2) Only the second dataset is present
3) both datasets are present

So the question is, how do I merge to polygon (buffer) layers into an output layer, while maintaining information about the individual layers.

Are you still struggling with this?
If you create individual shapefiles from every buffered dataset you can use Shapefile.Merge
Attribute values of both input shapefile will be passed to the resulting one.
